Middle school students in Appalachian Ohio immerse themselves into a society on a virtual island they visit over the state-of-the-art network, moving about, walking, running and even flying through highly developed landscapes, park-like settings and buildings.

Columbus, Ohio (April 24, 2007) — Ohio students, faculty, and researchers will no longer have to look out-of-state for access to the most advanced nationwide network in the United States, thanks to a project in Cleveland that connects Ohio’s research and education network – OSCnet – to the new Internet2 Network.

Third Frontier Network is now "OSCnet" 
OSC would like to announce that the name of the Third Frontier Network is being changed to OSCnet.

OSC would like to announce that the name of the Third Frontier Network is being changed to OSCnet. This name is the result of a series of meetings with legislators, academic partners, and state leadership.  Virtually all of those participating in the discussions noted that it was time to clearly associate the network with OSC so as to minimize confusion for OSCnet users and those who provide funding for the network, including the higher education partners that were central to the inception and implementation of the network.

North Canton, Ohio (September 19, 2006) – Walsh University received a $120,000 grant from the networking division of Ohio Supercomputer Center on behalf of the Ohio Board of Regents for advancing the University’s technology. The funds will enable Walsh to secure an ultra-high-speed data network connection, enabling collaboration with other similarly-connected institutions on cutting edge research projects and participation in video-conferencing.

Anyone in the world using H.323 Internet videoconferencing is invited to submit a proposal for what organizers are now calling “interactions,” or interactive presentations.
